Announcing our new patron: Martyn Ware

Heaven 17 mastermind and founding member of The Human League, Martyn Ware has joined the PRS Members’ Fund as a new patron of the charity.

Martyn Ware has been an essential and avid contributor to electro-pop music since the late 1970’s, when he formed The Human League and the production company/label British Electric Foundation.

Martyn has written, performed and produced two Human League, two BEF and nine Heaven 17 albums. As a record producer and artist he has featured on recordings totalling over 50 million sales worldwide, producing amongst others Tina Turner, Terence Trent D’Arby, Chaka Khan, Erasure, Marc Almond and Mavis Staples.

In 2001, Martyn joined forces with Vince Clarke to found Illustrious Company, and together they continue to combine their unique three-dimensional sound technology to collaborate with an array of artists, corporate clients and clientele within the performing arts industry as the likes of BBC TV, Amnesty International, BAFTA, The Royal Ballet, Tate Britain and many more.

Martyn is Principal of Tileyard Education and Visiting Professor at Queen Mary College, University of London. He also lectures extensively on music production, technology and creativity at universities and colleges across the world, and as board member of the Ivors Academy, proudly advocates for artists’ rights nationally and internationally.

Nicky Graham, PRS Members’ Fund chairman, said: “We are delighted to announce the appointment of Martyn Ware as our new patron. Martyn will be helping us to promote the Fund and the great work it does on behalf of PRS songwriters and composers to support them and their families in times of difficulty. We’re looking forward to starting work with him.”

On his appointment, Martyn said: “I am very pleased to be joining the PRS Members’ Fund as one of their patrons. Music is a huge part of my everyday life, and it’s an honour to support the work of the Fund and to help ensure that the wellbeing of songwriters and composers is well looked after.”
