Types of support
The PRS Members’ Fund can offer you many different levels of support, from career change advice to housing and financial support. Explore the links below to find out more, please contact us to see if you’re eligible and how to apply.
Mental health support
We have created a unique partnership with Help Musicians UK to provide dedicated mental health support to PRS members through Music Minds Matter – a free and confidential 24/7 mental health support line and service for the music industry. PRS members can access counselling, cognitive behavioural therapy as well as emotional support. Speak to their helpline on 0808 802 8008 or email [email protected]. Let the team know you are a PRS member.
Financial Support
Do you have financial worries? We work with StepChange and we can refer you directly for a confidential and personalised service. If you’re not sure if you qualify for help, take a free 60-second test, the StepChange team will let you know if you need debt advice and suggest what your next steps could be.
Winter crisis scheme
The PRS Members’ Fund is offering assistance to older PRS members or those who face financial hardship because of long-term illness and increases in fuel costs, and need help to meet the costs of home heating, or are struggling to meet typical household bills, and may have fallen into debt as a result.
Music Support
Music Support helps anyone working in music and live events, who may be affected by mental ill-health and/or addiction, with early intervention support services, education and workshops.
We work closely and in partnership to assist PRS members with addiction concerns to access tailored personal support, depending on need. For further information, you can speak with Music Support on their confidential helpline 0800 030 6789, or email us at [email protected].
Physical health support
Are you affected by illness, disability, accident or work-related health problems? Struggling to find your creative space or pay the bills as illness is dominating your life? Then we can help. We work with British Association for Performing Arts Medicine (BAPAM), who can help guide you to find specialist health assessments and support. Call BAPAM at 020 7404 8444, let them know you are a PRS member.
Career change advice
Have you reached a crossroads in your career and need help to see the options ahead of you? We can guide you towards the right support. Having a ‘Plan B’ for when things don’t quite work out as you had planned can sometimes minimise the impact.
Housing support
Do you need support around housing or homelessness? We work with Shelter, they can provide support and legal services. PRS members based in London can email [email protected] or call the advice line on 0344 515 1540. PRS members who live outside London can find information on the national Shelter’s website. Let the team know you are a PRS member. To apply for housing support grants contact us directly.
Sheltered housing
Cyril Wood Court, located in Dorset, provides affordable rented housing for older (55+) songwriters, composers, musicians, writers, painters and crafts-people in surroundings designed to suit their interests. We work in partnership with the Cyril Wood Memorial Trust, with nomination rights for potential residents.
Crisis grants
Our crisis grants are available to cover the costs of an emergency. Experiencing a financial crisis can be challenging and stressful; we will look at helping you with your most urgent costs.
Diversity & inclusion
Here at the Fund we are committed to better support all PRS members, while doing our part to deal with all forms of inequality within the music industry. We developed our own Diversity & Inclusion Pathway to Progress to keep track of our D&I initiatives which form part of our strategic objectives.
Respite breaks
Are you in need of space to create or find respite? We work with The Francis W Reckitt Arts Trust, a registered charity which supports residential stays for professional artists, writers and composers where they can get away for short periods of time for holidays, convalescence or quiet working time.
Legacy & will writing
Would you like to leave a legacy, or perhaps bequeath your copyrights, or a share of your royalties to the Fund, but not sure how to make your wishes known? We can provide help and guidance with advice and practical how to guides.
