Prioritising Your Wellbeing on World Mental Health Day

It’s World Mental Health Day! This year’s theme is ‘access to services – mental health in catastrophes and emergencies’. The theme highlights the importance of people being able to protect their mental health in times of global instability.

Our Athena (Member Support & Service Development Manager) shares some brief reflections on connection and reaching out for support.

“Have you ever noticed how a single oak tree stands tall – and apparently alone?  Swaying in the wildest of winds and in pouring rain?

Yet beneath – out of sight – lie deep roots entwined with the earth and connecting with others, invisibly and silent.  Occasionally, we glimpse the thick trunk roots on the surface.  As we approach World Mental Health Day, we are reminded of the importance of communal support if we are to thrive.

At our recent Soul Resonance Wellness event (a collaboration between PRS Members’ Fund, Music Support and Sulola Music), the power of coming together in a shared and safe space was very evident.  There was a palpable sense of relief and solidarity among participants of not feeling alone with their experiences in an industry that can often be competitive and callous.

It’s not always easy to reach out but taking that first step can make a difference – sometimes roots of support and connection are revealed that you didn’t even know were there.
