Meet Our People: Welcoming John Truelove to the Fund

We are delighted to announce that in February 2026, John Truelove was appointed as the newest Trustee of the PRS Members’ Fund. As part of our Meet Our People series, we take a closer look at the career of a man who has shaped the sound of British electronic music while remaining a tireless advocate for the creators behind it.

From Dancefloor Pioneer to Global Publisher

John Truelove is one of Britain’s original dance music producers. Leveraging his deep experience as a composer, he established Truelove Music, which has grown into a leading global electronic music publishing company. Today, the company manages a vast catalogue of 100,000 copyrights and hundreds of writers, priding itself on a hands-on creative approach and high-profile sync successes – most recently securing a 2026 Super Bowl commercial placement, widely regarded as one of the most coveted in global advertising.

An Enduring Legacy: ‘You Got The Love’

To many, John is best known by his moniker ‘The Source’, the name behind the iconic anthem ‘You Got The Love’. Since its first release in 1991, the track has remained one of electronic music’s most successful commercial hits, returning to the UK top 10 multiple times. Its cultural influence is undeniable; when Florence & The Machine famously covered the track in 2009, it served as a catalyst for the triple-platinum success of their debut album, Lungs.

A Passionate Activist for Creators

Beyond the studio, John is a fierce activist for the rights of music creators. He has long fought for fair and equitable remuneration, ensuring that writers are properly compensated whenever and wherever their work is used.

His commitment to the industry is reflected in his extensive governance work. A long-standing PRS Members’ Council and Board Director, John also founded and chairs the PRS Dance Music Committee. His leadership extends across the sector, including roles as:

  • Board Director at IMPEL (multi-territory digital licensing).
  • Former Board Member at the Music Publishers Association (MPA).
  • Founding member of the original Board of Advisors at the Association For Electronic Music (AFEM).
  • Member of the PRS Distribution and Licensing Committees.

Supporting Our Community

By joining the PRS Members’ Fund, John brings a wealth of industry knowledge and a genuine heart for the wellbeing of his peers. His appointment strengthens our mission to support music creators facing hardship, ensuring that the community he helped build is protected for years to come.

“John’s unique blend of creative success and dedication to music rights makes him an invaluable addition to our Board of Trustees. We are thrilled to have him on board” said our General Secretary John Logan.

On his appointment John said: “I am honoured to join the PRS Members’ Fund as a Trustee. Having spent my life in music, I’ve seen first-hand how unpredictable and precarious this profession can be. The Fund provides essential support to those who need it most, and I’m proud to play a part in strengthening that safety net for our community.”
