Meet our people | Naomi Asher

Naomi Asher, a music rights consultant with nearly 30 years of experience, has been appointed as a Trustee of the PRS Members’ Fund as of June 2025.

Naomi’s background includes leadership roles at Sony Music Publishing and Wixen Music UK. This positions her as a champion for the welfare of songwriters and composers.

Naomi stated that she is “delighted and honoured” to be appointed a trustee of the PRS Members’ Fund. She noted her understanding of the unpredictable circumstances that can impact music professionals, stating, “Having worked with legendary catalogue artists, songwriters, musicians, and performers for most of my career, I know how easily everything can be taken away in an instant.” Her new role provides an opportunity to contribute to an industry that has defined her career.

A career dedicated to creator rights

Originally from Los Angeles, Naomi has been a fixture in the London music industry since 1999. Her career began in musical theatre before moving into music publishing. There, she became an expert in intellectual property and neighbouring rights:

  • Sony Music Publishing: Asher was the Vice President of Songwriter Services and Neighbouring Rights at Sony Music Publishing until April 2024. During her time there, she oversaw a roster of more than 500 catalogue writers, helping to reintroduce their music to new audiences. She also guided the company’s expansion in the neighbouring rights space, especially during the acquisition and merger of the Neighbouring Rights business into Kollective Neighbouring Rights.
  • Wixen Music UK Ltd.: From 2010 to 2020, Naomi served as Director and President of Wixen Music UK, a company she co-founded. The organisation evolved from a UK sub-publisher into an entity that handled client acquisition, royalty processing, rights administration, and synchronisation licensing under her leadership.
  • IAFAR: In 2018, Naomi co-founded IAFAR, the world’s only trade association dedicated to neighbouring rights, driven by frustration with the lack of transparency surrounding neighbouring rights income. Her work with IAFAR and her history as a panellist and educator have established her as a leading authority on neighbouring rights.

Consultancy and new beginnings

After leaving Sony, Naomi founded her own music rights consultancy, focusing on catalogue management and neighbouring rights. She aims to help artists maximise their income and navigate the complexities of the music industry using nearly three decades of experience.

Naomi’s commitment to her field also extends to her education. While at Wixen, she earned a Post Graduate Diploma with Merit in UK, US, and EU copyright law from Kings College, London. She is also the co-author of the UK edition of The Plain and Simple Guide to Music Publishing and has served on numerous PRS committees.

A welcome addition to the PRS Members’ Fund

John Logan, General Secretary of the PRS Members’ Fund, welcomed Naomi’s appointment, stating that: “her experience, passion, and fresh perspectives will strengthen our work and help drive our mission forward. We look forward to the insights she’ll bring as we continue to grow and serve our PRS community”.

Naomi’s passion for helping artists, especially legacy writers, will be a valuable asset to the Fund. Her industry relationships and understanding of intellectual property rights will help the PRS community in her new role.

On her appointment Naomi said: “I am delighted and honoured to have been appointed a trustee of the PRS Members’ Fund. I am proud to be in a position where I can help others and show my gratitude for an industry that has given me an amazing career.”
