Singer/songwriter and poet Jennie Bellestar Matthias has joined the PRS Members’ Fund as an ambassador for the charity.

Eugenie Matthias, better known as Jennie Bellestar Matthias, first burst onto the pop scene in the well-loved 80s all-girl band The Belle Stars. Formerly songwriter and lead singer, after the band split up, Jennie started to co-write and record tracks with various artists and to perform solo.

Inspired by her experience having been supported by the Fund during a difficult period of her life and having watched many of her friends bow out of life, Jennie started to refer PRS members to the Fund.

She continues to use her knowledge to inspire others looking for positive changes and she uses her poetry to raise awareness of issues that are important to her.

John Logan, PRS Members’ Fund general secretary, said: “We are delighted to welcome Jennie as our first ambassador. Her creative energy and commitment to supporting fellow songwriters and composers will be a huge asset to the Fund.”

On her appointment, Jennie said:

“When the PRS Members Fund asked me if I would like to become their ‘Official Ambassador’, I did not hesitate to accept this wonderful position. Over the years I have had so many wonderful experiences with them. To be given an official Ambassador title is an honour as the Fund has helped so many writers get back on their feet through these increasingly hard times. Having liaised with them behind the scenes for several years, I feel it is a great privilege to be able to promote the Fund’s work among our community so that those PRS writers and musicians who are struggling now and in the future receive the help they need. I am excited about this role and intend to be a hands on Ambassador. I look forward to a positively productive journey with the Members’ Fund and assisting PRS members.”
